About Me

Hi! My name is Fangyun Zhao (in Chinese, it is written as 赵方韵). My friends and colleagues know me as Olivia Zhao.

I am a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I am co-advised by Dr. Paula Niedenthal in Psychology Department and Dr. Bilge Mutlu in Computer Sciences Department.

I study affective science and human robot interaction. I'm interested in how people use nonverbal synchrony adapt to social environments, how culture shapes nonverbal behaviors, and how to integrate theories on functions of emotions into computer/robot mediated communication. In addition, I love exploring and creating novel techniques and methods to conduct emotion and HCI research.
